Laburnum (Laburnum)

This is a deciduous tree native to southern Europe. It has beautiful yellow drooping flowers that give it its name. Every part of these trees contains cytisine, which is also used in low doses as a drug to help people quit smoking. However, in high doses, this chemical is lethal. Cytisine poisoning begins with severe vomiting, followed by foamy drool coming out of the mouth. After about an hour, convulsions begin, leading to a deep coma or even death.
